Cliff Little

Cliff Little is a self-taught American artist. Born and raised in Nathan’s Creek, NC, Cliff incorporates unique, individually selected wood scavenged while roaming through the forests near his home in his beloved Blue Ridge Mountains.

Cliff has vivid memories of being a child of only 5 or 6 years old and dreaming of the pieces he would someday create in wood. Once telling his father that he wanted to someday create a”World Table” made from every wood type in the world. Today, he is seldom without a chisel in his hand, usually working on 3-4 pieces at one time since, as he says, if the piece isn’t speaking to him that day he doesn’t work on it.

To behold a Cliff Little creation for the very first time is stimulating to the senses and often jaw dropping! Although truly handmade, Cliff is quick to point out that his art is “perfectly imperfect.” Often picking what others might call flawed wood, Cliff then works diligently to enhance the flaw. He has a deep sense that the wood will, as he puts it, “tell me what it wants to be”. Like vine-ripened fruit that is coaxed to perfection by the soft rain, fresh air and dazzling sun, Cliff knows that each piece of wood has its own individuality and believes his job is to coax and blend the woods into revealing their true colors and character. The result is incredibly unique, functional art that is infused with a spiritual essence.
